Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, presenting a formal letter of recommendation to the Nobel Committee.

The announcement was made during a dinner held at the White House on Monday, where both leaders praised their ongoing collaboration on Middle East diplomacy.

“He’s forging peace as we speak, in one country, in one region after the other,” Netanyahu said, commending Trump’s continued efforts in international conflict mediation.

Trump, who has received several Nobel Peace Prize nominations from supporters and political allies over the years, has frequently voiced frustration at being passed over for the award.

Throughout his political career, the Republican leader has cited his role in mediating global tensions and negotiating peace agreements as grounds for consideration.

Among the accomplishments he has previously highlighted are his efforts to de-escalate hostilities between India and Pakistan, help broker a deal between Serbia and Kosovo, and facilitate the Abraham Accords, a landmark diplomatic initiative that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Trump has also argued that he deserves recognition for “keeping peace” between Egypt and Ethiopia amid their dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and for pledging to resolve the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.

Though he campaigned as a “peacemaker,” both conflicts remain active more than five months into his current presidential term.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually by a committee appointed by the Norwegian parliament, often recognizing individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to peace and international diplomacy.

While nominations are routinely submitted by lawmakers and world leaders, the selection process is known for its confidentiality and independence.

Netanyahu’s nomination letter adds a new layer to the ongoing political relationship between the two leaders, who have long touted each other’s foreign policy successes. Whether the Norwegian Nobel Committee will take the nomination further remains to be seen.
