LeBron James has made history once again, becoming the first player in NBA history to surpass 50,000 career points across both regular season and playoff games.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar reached the milestone during the game against the New Orleans Pelicans, further solidifying his position as the league’s all-time leading scorer.
The 40-year-old entered the game with 49,999 career points and wasted no time securing his place in history, sinking a 25-foot three-pointer off a pass from Luka Doncic to bring his total to 50,002 points.
This achievement adds to his long list of records, including surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s previous all-time regular-season scoring mark of 38,387 points in 2023.
James now holds a commanding lead over other NBA legends, with Abdul-Jabbar’s total career points at 44,149, followed by Karl Malone (41,689), Kobe Bryant (39,283), and Michael Jordan (38,279). Among active players, Kevin Durant is the closest with just over 35,000 points—still nearly 15,000 behind James.
NBA icon Magic Johnson led the tributes, congratulating James on X for his unprecedented accomplishment. James’ milestone came on the same day he was named Western Conference Player of the Month for February, making him the oldest player to win the award. His stellar form, averaging 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists last month, has helped the Lakers secure a six-game winning streak and climb to second place in the Western Conference standings.
