The Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic restrictions in several major parts of the state as it prepares for project inaugurations connected to the visit of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a travel notice released by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, residents were informed that some roads will be partly closed on April 8 and 9, 2026.

The government explained that the step is to allow easy movement and ensure safety during the events.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the affected areas include Ikeja, Ojota, Ajegunle and Victoria Island, where important projects will be commissioned.

On Wednesday, April 8, traffic around Opebi, Allen Avenue, Ikeja and Ojota will be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. because of the inauguration of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge.

Motorists using these routes during that period are advised to take alternative roads to avoid delays.

Activities will continue on Thursday, April 9, with two different events. The first will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle. Movement around Olodi Apapa and nearby areas is expected to slow down during that time, and drivers are advised to plan ahead.

Later in the day, another event will hold at the Eko Hotel in Victoria Island from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Traffic may increase in that area because of security arrangements and the movement of people. Road users are encouraged to avoid the route if possible or prepare for delays.

The government also said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be present to control traffic and assist commuters along the affected routes.

Residents were advised to obey instructions from traffic officers and cooperate during the period. The government added that the road closures are temporary and necessary to ensure the smooth running of the events.
