The Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has inaugurated its long-awaited permanent secretariat, naming the complex after Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, nearly three decades after functioning without a central administrative office.

The development was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the National President of CAN, Daniel Okoh, who formally commissioned the facility known as the “Senator Oluremi Tinubu CAN Lagos State Secretariat” located in Alausa, Ikeja.

Okoh commended the Lagos chapter for its persistence and dedication in bringing the project to fruition, noting that the unveiling marks the first time in almost 30 years that CAN Lagos will operate from a permanent structure.

“I urge all members to remain united and dedicated to the work of Christian leadership in Lagos State,” Okoh stated during the ceremony.

Represented at the occasion, the First Lady described the completion of the secretariat as the resolution of long-standing disagreements over the land and the beginning of a new phase for the Christian community in Lagos.

One of the floors within the newly completed building was named in honour of Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, Iya Aladura General and founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries, in acknowledgment of her notable financial contribution toward the construction.

Yomi-Sholoye described the secretariat as a worthy and dignified headquarters for Christian leadership in the state.

“For about three decades, CAN did not have a befitting secretariat. Today, we have a beautiful structure that will lift the work of God to the next level. It is God’s doing,” she said.

The project was completed under the leadership of His Lordship Rt. Rev. S.T.V. Adegbite, with the foundation stone laid on February 17, 2024.

Among those in attendance was the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, along with clerics representing various Christian denominations.

Complex Named After Prominent Leaders

The facility comprises several sections named after distinguished public figures. The principal office block bears the name of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while the Bishop Stephen Adegbite Hall and Event Centre serves as a major gathering space within the complex.

The office of the CAN Chairman is named after Tokunbo Abiru.

Speaking at the event, Adegbite described the secretariat as a representation of unity and strengthened administration, encouraging members to safeguard and properly maintain the facility.

Other Projects Named After the First Lady

Since the inauguration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May 2023, several public initiatives and institutions have been named in honour of the First Lady.

These include the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Renewed Hope Resettlement City in Keffi, Nasarawa State; the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; and the Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub in Lagos.

Annual Interdenominational Service

Following the commissioning ceremony, CAN Lagos convened its 2026 Annual Interdenominational Divine Service themed “Immanuel: God With Us” (Matthew 1:23). The service was held at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Olorunda, Ketu.

Delivering his message, Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Omidina encouraged Christians to remain resolute in the face of economic and social pressures, while prayers were offered for peace, unity, and national progress.

What You Should Know

The Lagos chapter of CAN has officially opened its first permanent secretariat in nearly 30 years, naming the facility after First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

The project, completed under the leadership of Rt. Rev. S.T.V. Adegbite consolidates the association’s administrative activities under one roof. Key contributors, including Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, were recognised for financial support.

Several sections of the complex are named after prominent political leaders. The commissioning was followed by CAN Lagos’ 2026 Annual Interdenominational Service, where prayers were offered for unity, stability, and national development.
