Governor Uba Sani has constituted a high-level consensus committee on party harmonisation and aspirants’ engagement as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy, promote cohesion among stakeholders and sustain unity within the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State ahead of forthcoming elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki.
According to the statement, the committee is expected to deepen mediation and constructive engagement among aspirants across the state while fostering mutual understanding, political stability and consensus-building within the party.
Maiyaki explained that the committee would interface with aspirants, party leaders and other key stakeholders to facilitate amicable resolutions in constituencies where multiple political interests exist.
He added that the committee would also encourage voluntary withdrawals where necessary in the broader interest of party harmony and electoral success.
“The constitution of this Committee reflects the commitment of Governor Uba Sani to inclusive leadership, internal cohesion and the preservation of unity within the party,” the statement noted.

The committee will be chaired by the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Balarabe, while the state APC Secretary, Abubakar Rabiu, will serve as secretary.
Other members of the committee include the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, Kaduna State APC Chairman Atiku Sankey, and the Secretary to the State Government, AbdulKadir Meyere.
Also appointed are the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sani Kila, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General James Kanyip, Commissioner for Information and Culture Ahmed Maiyaki, and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Legal Services, Mustapha Musa.
The move is seen as part of Governor Uba Sani’s strategy to prevent internal disputes and strengthen consensus-building mechanisms within the APC as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the next election cycle.
Political observers believe the committee’s success will depend largely on its ability to mediate effectively among competing aspirants and ensure that the reconciliation process is perceived as transparent and fair by all stakeholders.
What You Should Know
The establishment of the consensus committee signals Kaduna APC’s early attempt to avoid the internal crises that often trail party primaries in Nigeria.
By encouraging mediation and voluntary withdrawals, the party hopes to build consensus and prevent factional disputes that could weaken its electoral chances. Governor Uba Sani’s decision also reflects a broader trend among ruling party structures to manage political ambitions through negotiation rather than open confrontation.
How successfully the committee handles competing interests may shape APC’s internal stability and electoral strength in Kaduna as future elections approach.
