Edo Governor Approves ₦4.6bn for Disengaged College Staff Entitlements

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the payment of the first tranche of entitlements to staff of the Colleges of Education in Ekiadolor and Igueben who were disengaged under the previous administration.

According to the Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, a total of ₦4.6 billion has been earmarked for the settlement of the affected workers, covering 682 pensioners from Ekiadolor and 32 from Igueben. The amount will be disbursed in four tranches of ₦1.16 billion each, with the first tranche already released in line with the Pension Act.

Governor Okpebholo also approved the immediate release of ₦292 million as a second tranche of pension entitlements for disengaged staff of the Colleges of Agriculture in Iguoriakhi and Agenebode. Payments are expected to take effect on or before Wednesday.

Itua noted that so far, the state government has released ₦1.4 billion to four colleges, a move aimed at restoring dignity to those affected and repositioning Edo’s education sector.
