The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has restated its commitment to enhancing digital learning across public schools in the territory, following the official handover of 600 tablet computers to 12 secondary schools by MTN Nigeria.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud—represented by her Special Assistant on Technical Matters, Michael Bawa—praised MTN for its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility. She described the donation as a “timely and impactful investment” in Nigeria’s youth and the nation’s digital future.

Mahmoud noted that the donation aligns with the FCTA’s current push to modernise its educational infrastructure and provide students with the necessary tools to excel in today’s digital world. She highlighted that beyond technology, the initiative reflects a deeper investment in national development and digital inclusion.

She also drew parallels with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasises expanding access to quality education and digital empowerment across Nigeria.

Dr Danlami Hayyo, represented by Dr Kolawole Olabashola of the Department of Science and Technology, echoed the appreciation. He said the intervention would help public schools in Nigeria bridge the global digital gap and compete on a more level playing field internationally.

In his remarks, MTN Nigeria’s Board Chairman, Dr Ernest Ndukwe, said the initiative reflects the company’s dedication to empowering students regardless of their background or location. According to him, the donation is part of a broader effort involving the distribution of 4,600 tablets to public secondary schools across the country to support innovation, opportunity, and learning.
