Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has confirmed that the Senior Officials Meeting between Nigeria and the European Union (EU) will take place in Abuja on July 1 and 2, 2025.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to solidify preparations ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria-EU Ministerial Meeting.

In a statement released on Saturday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Tuggar said the upcoming talks would explore key areas of bilateral cooperation.

The meeting will be co-chaired by Ambassador Janet Olisa, Director of the Regions Department at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Mathieu Briens, Deputy Managing Director for the Africa Department of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

According to the minister, the agenda will cover a broad spectrum of issues, including multilateral and regional cooperation, peace and security, governance, humanitarian affairs, trade and investment, and human development—particularly health, education, and social protection.

Discussions will also feature topics such as science and technology, digital innovation, migration management, energy partnerships, climate change, and the transition to a green economy.

Tuggar emphasized the depth and strength of the Nigeria–EU relationship, describing it as one grounded in mutual respect, shared interests, and a joint commitment to a multilateral, rule-based international order.

What you should know
The Nigeria–EU partnership is one of the country’s most significant global relationships, spanning development cooperation, trade, security, and diplomacy. This high-level meeting signals a continued commitment to advancing mutual goals in sustainability, peace, and economic growth.
