The identities of 36 students abducted during the attack on Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State have been revealed.

The students were reportedly abducted on Monday after suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters invaded the school at about 8:30 a.m.

During the attack, the insurgents reportedly abducted students and teachers. A teacher was also said to have been shot dead after refusing to accompany the attackers, while another person sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

According to Daily Trust, a verified register compiled after the attack confirmed that 36 students were taken away by the insurgents.

The report showed that 11 of the abducted students are male, while 25 are female.

A breakdown of the students’ classes indicated that one is in SS3, 17 are in SS2, while 18 are in SS1.

The Councillor representing Lassa Ward, Hon. Jagila Jabula, confirmed the authenticity of the list, stating that it was compiled by the school authorities with the support of parents of the missing students.

Lassa is located about 20 kilometres from Mussa community, where 42 pupils of Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School were abducted on May 15.

The latest attack has heightened concerns over renewed assaults on schools in parts of Borno State, particularly in communities vulnerable to insurgent activities.
