The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said there are currently no plans to extend the ongoing sale of expression of interest and nomination forms for aspirants seeking to contest under the party’s platform in the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nantewe Yilwatda, disclosed this on Wednesday during a media briefing in Abuja, where he reaffirmed the party’s commitment to sticking strictly to its established timetable.

According to him, the process remains on track, and any possible adjustment to the timeline would only be determined through the appropriate internal procedures of the party.

“The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) will decide at its meeting if there will be any room for extension.

“There is a timeline for activities and if there will be any extension we will follow due process.

“There is presently no extension for the sales of the forms,” he said.

Yilwatda expressed satisfaction with how the process has unfolded so far, describing it as orderly and efficient. He said the smooth conduct of the sales exercise reflects the party’s preparedness for the forthcoming primaries and strengthens confidence in its electoral prospects for 2027.

He noted that the APC continues to provide equal opportunities for all members interested in contesting elective offices, stressing that the level of participation seen so far demonstrates the party’s internal democratic culture.

“The APC remains one of the most democratic political parties in the country which provides level playing ground to all its members.

“Someone has even picked a form to contest the presidency and this shows the level of democracy we have in Nigeria.

“The number of people coming to contest in our party tells us that it is the most acceptable in Nigeria,” he said.

The chairman also dismissed suggestions of operational challenges in the form purchase process, stating that the designated financial institutions handling payments have been carrying out their responsibilities without disruption.

He explained that party officials assigned to oversee the transaction process are actively monitoring activities to ensure transparency and efficiency.

“There is currently no challenge in the sale of forms as the banks had been doing the needful with party staff overseeing the clearance.

“The department in charge of receipts is up to its duties and is monitoring the social media to ascertain if people are complaining,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ruling party had earlier announced that the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms would run from April 25 to May 2.

The clarification comes amid growing interest among aspirants seeking to secure the party’s ticket for various elective positions, including governorship, National Assembly, and presidential contests ahead of the next general elections.

With the deadline fast approaching, the APC leadership has made it clear that aspirants are expected to comply with the existing schedule unless officially notified otherwise by the National Working Committee.

What You Should Know

The APC has maintained that the sale of its 2027 nomination and expression of interest forms will close as originally scheduled on May 2, with no extension currently under consideration.

Party officials say any future adjustment can only be approved by the National Working Committee through due process. The leadership described the exercise as smooth and transparent, insisting it reflects the party’s democratic credentials.

APC also pointed to the growing number of aspirants purchasing forms as evidence of confidence in the party’s internal processes.

The clarification is expected to push aspirants to meet the deadline as preparations intensify for the 2027 primaries.
