The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor disclosed this on Friday during a statewide broadcast to the people of Adamawa.
Fintiri stated that his decision was taken after consultations and that members of his cabinet, along with other key PDP officials in the state, also defected with him to the APC.
He explained that the move was driven by what he described as the need to promote the development and progress of Adamawa State.
Prior to the governor’s defection, several lawmakers in the Adamawa State House of Assembly had already resigned from the PDP.
During plenary on Wednesday, the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, read out resignation letters from himself and many of his colleagues, confirming their exit from the party.
Among those who resigned were the Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Buba Jijiwa, and at least thirteen other members of the Assembly.
In total, about fifteen lawmakers stepped down from the PDP, citing internal challenges at the national level as a major reason for their decision.
Most of the defecting lawmakers are expected to join the APC, while a few were still considering their next political affiliation at the time of the announcement.
