Nollywood filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has described her recent box office achievements as a testament to purpose, faith, and dedication to storytelling rather than a pursuit of records.

Reacting to the unprecedented commercial success of her films, Akindele noted that while milestones are worth acknowledging, they are not the ultimate goal of her creative journey. Her 2023 blockbuster A Tribe Called Judah made history as the first Nigerian film to gross ₦1 billion at the box office, setting a new benchmark for the local film industry. Building on that feat, her latest project, Behind The Scenes, has crossed the ₦2 billion mark, with earnings still climbing.

In a reflective message shared with fans and industry colleagues, Akindele attributed the achievements to divine grace, describing the success as “God in motion,” while returning all glory to God. She emphasized that the numbers, though significant, are merely byproducts of a deeper commitment to excellence and meaningful storytelling.

The award-winning filmmaker stressed that her guiding principles remain unchanged: serving the story with honesty, respecting the audience, and continuously refining her craft. According to her, true success lies in creating work that resonates with viewers and earns genuine applause, rather than chasing accolades or records.

Akindele’s remarks have resonated widely within Nollywood, where her achievements are seen as a powerful signal of the industry’s growing commercial strength and global relevance. Her films’ box office dominance underscores a shift in Nigerian cinema, proving that well-told local stories, backed by professionalism and consistency, can achieve historic success.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Funke Akindele’s record-breaking box office success underscores that her achievements are driven by faith, dedication to quality storytelling, and respect for the audience—not by the pursuit of records—proving that excellence and purpose naturally earn lasting impact.
