Christopher Imumolen, the factional National Chairman of the Accord Party (A), has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential election and declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

Imumolen announced his decision in a statement released on Wednesday. He said the move followed consultations with leaders and stakeholders within his faction of the party.

He explained that he decided to step down because of the need to promote national unity, political stability and continued development.

According to him, the country’s interest should always come before personal political ambition.

“The unity, stability and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition,” Imumolen said.

The former presidential aspirant gave 10 reasons for supporting Tinubu, including what he described as their shared views on economic reforms, education, industrialisation, youth empowerment and national development.

He also praised the President’s leadership, political experience and commitment to progressive governance.

Imumolen said Tinubu has shown the ability to identify and empower talented people while encouraging inclusive leadership.

He expressed confidence that the administration’s economic and fiscal reforms would put Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth, despite the economic hardship many Nigerians are currently facing.

According to him, continuity in government and consistent implementation of policies are important for strengthening public institutions, attracting investment, creating jobs and promoting national development.

Imumolen said his involvement in politics has always been about serving Nigeria rather than holding public office.

He stated:

“My aspiration has always been to serve Nigeria and not merely to occupy public office.

“Whenever the national interest is better served through unity and strategic collaboration, I will always choose Nigeria above personal political ambition.”

He described his decision to withdraw from the race and endorse Tinubu as a sacrifice made in the country’s interest.

“Our decision to withdraw our presidential candidature and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a deliberate sacrifice made in the interest of Nigeria,” he added.

Imumolen also called on members of the Accord Party, his supporters, professionals and other Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.

He said working with the President would provide a better opportunity to achieve the policies and development goals he had hoped to pursue through his presidential ambition.
