Tinubu takes action on Shettima

President Bola Tinubu has approved a two-week leave for Vice President Kashim Shettima, marking his first official break since the administration took office on May 29, 2023.

The Presidency announced on Thursday, August 6, 2026, that the leave takes effect immediately.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, said the Vice President will use the period for study, personal reflection and intellectual development before returning to his official duties.

According to the Presidency, the break will give Shettima time to assess ongoing government programmes and improve his understanding of emerging national and global policy matters as the Federal Government continues to implement its Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since assuming office, Shettima has played a major role in coordinating and supervising key government programmes in areas such as economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He also serves as Chairman of the National Economic Council, where he leads discussions involving the governors of the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other top government officials on policies affecting the economy and the welfare of Nigerians.

The Presidency also noted that Shettima has represented President Tinubu at several regional and international meetings, promoting Nigeria’s interests in investment, economic integration, peace and security, climate action and sustainable development.

It added that the Vice President remains committed to supporting the administration’s programmes and policies and will return to office after the two-week leave to continue carrying out his responsibilities.
