The senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), about five months after joining the party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to reports, Onawo blamed the party’s ongoing legal disputes and internal challenges for his decision.
In a resignation letter dated July 2, 2026, and addressed to the ADC chairman of Galadimawa Ward in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the senator said his resignation took effect from June 15, 2026.
According to the letter, “This decision is the outcome of careful reflection and wide-ranging consultations with my constituents, political associates, and other critical stakeholders.
“It is driven by my firm belief that the prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battles it is currently embroiled in no longer offer the cohesion, support, and enabling environment required for me to focus squarely on effectively representing my constituents.”
Onawo thanked members of the party and his supporters for standing by him during his time in the ADC.
“I am grateful for the trust and cooperation I received from my supporters and well-wishers through this journey,” he said.
“Please accept my appreciation and best wishes for the continued progress and success of the party.”
The lawmaker did not reveal the political party he intends to join next.
His resignation comes about five months after he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in January 2026, citing personal reasons.
In March 2026, Onawo joined the ADC alongside eight other senators, including Aminu Tambuwal, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, Binos Yaroe, Lawal Usman, Ireti Kingibe and Austin Akobundu.
