A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has narrated how he narrowly escaped being attacked by a group of youths at the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos State.
The incident reportedly happened on Friday when Igbokwe visited the market to purchase spare parts for his vehicle.
According to him, some people in the market recognized him while he was searching for the items he needed and began drawing attention to his presence.
He explained that after buying the spare parts and returning to his vehicle, a crowd started gathering around him.
The situation reportedly became tense as more youths joined the group and moved closer to where he was.
Fearing that the situation could get out of control, Igbokwe said he left the area and sought refuge in a friend’s shop within the market.
He disclosed that market leaders were later contacted and intervened to calm the situation before escorting him out safely.
The APC chieftain said that after the intervention, he came out of hiding and noticed a large crowd around him.
He added that many people were speaking angrily, but he chose not to respond and instead left the market peacefully in his vehicle.
Reacting to reports circulating on social media, Igbokwe denied claims that he was physically assaulted during the incident.
He maintained that although there was an attempt by some individuals to confront him, he was not beaten and was able to leave the market without suffering any injury.
He also expressed concern over the development and said he hoped such an incident would not occur again.
A video posted by Igbokwe on his Facebook page showed him recounting the events and responding to the reports that emerged after the encounter at the Lagos market.
