The family of late Nigerian actor Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke has officially announced the funeral arrangements for their beloved son, husband, and brother, who passed away after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
The announcement, released through the actor’s official social media handle, has since sent fresh waves of grief rippling across Nigeria’s entertainment industry and beyond.
In the statement, the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family painted a portrait of a man who was far more than the roles he played on screen.
They described Alexx as someone whose life was defined by love, warmth, generosity, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to God, qualities that endeared him not only to fans but also to every soul fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
“Though his passing came far too soon,” the family wrote, “Alexx lived a life marked by love, warmth, generosity, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to God and the people he cherished. His presence filled rooms, lifted hearts, and created memories that will remain with us forever.”
Those words resonate deeply with anyone who followed Alexx’s career. Known for his magnetic screen presence, infectious smile, and effortless charisma, Ekubo had carved out a formidable reputation in the Nigerian film industry over the years, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in contemporary Nollywood.
His death, the family noted, came “too soon,” a sentiment echoed by thousands of fans, fellow actors, and industry stakeholders who have flooded social media with tributes since the news of his passing broke.
In perhaps the most touching section of the family’s statement, the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family paused to acknowledge the extraordinary kindness shown to them during what they described as a deeply painful period.
“The overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, messages, visits, calls, support, and strength shown to the family during this painful period has been truly humbling,” they said. “Words cannot fully express our gratitude.”
The condolences that have poured in from colleagues, fans, and public figures alike speak to a legacy that transcends the silver screen. From heartfelt tributes shared by fellow Nollywood stars to ordinary Nigerians recounting personal encounters with the late actor, the response has been nothing short of extraordinary.
The family has outlined a series of ceremonies to honor Alexx’s memory, inviting family, friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers to participate in celebrating a life beautifully lived.
The proceedings will begin on Wednesday, 10th June 2026, with a service of songs to be held at The Monarch Event Center, Lekki, Lagos, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Attendees are requested to dress in white.
The farewell will then move to his ancestral home in the southeast. A wakekeep is scheduled for Wednesday, 17th June 2026, at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The funeral service will be held the following morning, Thursday, 18th June 2026, at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, Abia State, before his interment at the family compound, 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, later that same day.
