Panic as Terrorists Strike Kwara Community Again

The security situation in parts of Kwara State has worsened following another deadly terrorist attack on Tenibo community in Kaiama Local Government Area, where three mobile police officers were killed in the early hours of Saturday.

The latest incident comes barely 11 days after terrorists attacked Kemanji community in the same local government area, killing three soldiers after an intense gun battle that reportedly lasted more than two hours.

According to reports, the fresh assault has sparked fear across Tenibo and surrounding communities, forcing many residents to flee their homes for safer areas amid growing concerns over repeated attacks.

Sources said the attack occurred around midnight when the armed assailants emerged from nearby forests and launched a coordinated assault on a security base stationed in the community.

The terrorists reportedly overpowered the officers on duty, killing three mobile policemen before retreating into the forest.

A staff member of Kaiama Local Government, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident.

Residents have blamed the repeated attacks on the dense forest surrounding the area, which they say has become a hideout for criminal elements.

One local resident called on the government to urgently clear the forests and open the land for farming activities.

“The thick forest where the terrorists are hiding is just about a kilometre from the community, so it makes it easy for them to come out, attack the security people and return to the thick forest.

“I know the place is very big, but the government can afford to clear the whole place, chase away the terrorists and encourage residents to farm there. This would largely stop the killings.

“Government can’t just be looking while terrorists are killing soldiers and our police like chickens; they’re also human beings like us. Something must be done urgently,” the resident said.

Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Danladi, also confirmed the killings during an interview on Saturday.

“Yes, the development again happened this morning, the terrorists killed three of our mobile police officers.

“The local government is trying its best, we are evolving a synergy with the state and federal governments to stop this kind of unfortunate development. It’s not something we can do alone,” he said.

The repeated attacks have renewed calls for stronger security interventions in Kwara North, particularly in forest-border communities increasingly exposed to armed violence.

What You Should Know

The latest attack in Tenibo highlights growing insecurity in Kwara State’s border communities, where armed groups continue to exploit forested areas to launch deadly assaults.

With six security operatives killed in less than two weeks across Kaiama Local Government Area, concerns are mounting over the capacity of existing security arrangements. Residents are demanding urgent action, including forest clearance and increased deployment of security personnel.

The repeated incidents underscore the broader challenge of rural insecurity in Nigeria, where communities often remain vulnerable due to difficult terrain, limited surveillance, and delayed response mechanisms from security agencies.
