The governorship ambition of Obafemi Hamzat has received a significant boost as prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Wale Edun and Tokunbo Abiru, publicly declared their support ahead of the 2027 elections.
The endorsements came during separate visits by Hamzat to the residences of both leaders, part of ongoing consultations aimed at consolidating backing within the party as he seeks to succeed incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Speaking during the visits, Hamzat emphasised the importance of stakeholder engagement, noting that consultations remain a core element of internal democracy within the APC.
“Consultations are part of a democratic process to strengthen the party. And it’s our tradition to ensure that we carry every member along in the decision-making,” he said.
In his response, Abiru, who represents Lagos East Senatorial District, described Hamzat’s outreach as a reflection of party unity and discipline, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity. “You have our full support,” the senator stated.

Similarly, Edun commended the consultative approach, describing it as a demonstration of grassroots democracy in action. He also endorsed Hamzat’s candidacy, citing his competence and experience.
“You have our endorsement. You have the capacity, experience, and competence to lead,” Edun said, while urging the aspirant to prioritise poverty reduction and sustained economic growth if elected.
The former minister also praised the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu, linking them to the broader development agenda within the party.
Also present during the engagement was Musiliu Obanikoro, who commended Edun’s longstanding contributions to the APC, while political figure Julius Solomon described Hamzat as the most qualified candidate for the role, highlighting his experience in governance and loyalty to the party.
The growing endorsements signal increasing momentum for Hamzat within APC circles, as political alignments gradually take shape ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.
