Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has been released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, according to his son, Bashir El-Rufai.
Bashir made the disclosure in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, confirming that his father had regained freedom after weeks in detention.

“My beloved great legend of a father (@elrufai) is being released from his unlawful and illegal detention at the hands of one of the most corrupt agencies in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that is a lame excuse of a pathetic institution.
“Thank you all for all the support. Our family shall never forget these times. We have overcome, as the El-Rufais,” he wrote.
Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations bordering on financial misconduct and related matters.
As of the time of filing this report, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the terms of his release.

Meanwhile, the development comes amid a period of personal loss for the former governor, as his mother, Hajiya Umma, passed away earlier on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.
The combination of his release and the bereavement marks a significant and emotional moment for the El-Rufai family.
