The Progressives Governors Forum is set to hold a crucial meeting in Lagos today, bringing together governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The high-level gathering, hosted by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will take place at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island later in the day.

The meeting comes at a time when Bola Tinubu is in Lagos observing the Eid-el-Fitr break ahead of his return to Abuja, adding further political significance to the gathering.

As of March 2026, the APC controls 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states, reflecting a strong consolidation of political influence nationwide. This dominance has been strengthened by recent defections from opposition parties, further expanding the party’s reach across the federation.

The Forum is expected to focus on aligning policies at the state level with the agenda of the federal government, as well as discussing broader governance and political strategies.

The PGF, chaired by Hope Uzodimma, last convened in Lagos in December 2025 at the same venue, where party leaders and stakeholders deliberated on key national issues.

At the end of that meeting, the Forum issued a communiqué expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future as a united and prosperous nation.

During the previous session, members also reviewed the country’s security situation and commended President Tinubu for improved coordination among federal, state, and local security frameworks, alongside the efforts of security agencies and community volunteers.

What you should know

The Progressives Governors Forum plays a central role in shaping policy direction within the APC, especially given the party’s control of most states in Nigeria.

Meetings like this are often used to harmonise governance strategies, strengthen party unity, and address pressing national issues such as security and economic development.

With President Tinubu in Lagos, the meeting may also serve as an opportunity for broader political consultations ahead of future policy decisions.
