The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has directed all political appointees in the state to hand over their duties with immediate effect.

The directive was issued less than 24 hours after Soludo took the oath of office for his second term as governor.

The development, which effectively dissolves the existing cabinet, was conveyed in an official circular dated March 18, 2026, from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

According to the circular, all affected appointees have been instructed to transfer their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

In cases where a Permanent Secretary is not available, the handover is to be made to the most senior civil servant in the ministry, department or agency.

The state government added that the handover process must be completed before the close of work on the same day while arrangements are being made to constitute a new cabinet.

“I am directed to inform all political appointees to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today… until a new cabinet is constituted,” the circular stated.

The government also directed members of the outgoing cabinet to attend a meeting with the governor.

The meeting has been scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and will take place at the ANSEC Chambers.

The circular communicating the directive was signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Nwabufor Nwankwo.

The directive marks the formal end of Soludo’s first-term cabinet and signals the beginning of a new administrative phase under his second term in office.
