The Kano State Government under Governor Abba Yusuf has announced Sunday, March 1, as the commencement date for the Eid al-Fitr holiday for all public and private primary and post-primary schools across the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Education, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai.
According to the statement, the decision is in line with the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar, which indicates that the second term will conclude on Saturday, February 28.
Yakasai stated that both day and boarding schools are to begin the Sallah break from the approved date.
“All day and boarding schools across Kano State will commence their Sallah break from March 1,” he said.
He urged parents and guardians, especially those with children in boarding schools, to make necessary arrangements ahead of the holiday.
“Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that pupils in boarding schools are conveyed home by the early hours of Friday, 27 February 2026, to facilitate a smooth transition into the holiday,” he added.
The statement further outlined the resumption schedule for the continuation of the academic session. Boarding school pupils are to resume on Sunday, March 22, while day students will return on Monday, March 23, 2026.
It added that the second term will run from March 22 to Saturday, April 18.
Schools have been directed to strictly adhere to the approved timetable, with the ministry warning that non-compliance would be treated as a violation of government directives.
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, called on parents, guardians and school authorities to ensure full compliance with the academic calendar.
He also appreciated residents for their continued support of government policies in the education sector and wished pupils and students a peaceful Eid al-Fitr celebration.
