The United States government has issued a global security alert for its citizens in Nigeria and around the world following escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
In an advisory released Sunday, the United States Department of State urged Americans to remain vigilant after recent US military operations targeting Iran.

According to the notice, evolving security developments could disrupt travel plans and raise safety concerns, including possible airspace closures and interruptions to commercial flights.
“Following the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide and especially in the Middle East should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the advisory stated.
“They may experience travel disruptions due to periodic airspace closures. The Department of State advises Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution.”
The alert encouraged US nationals to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive updated security information. It also advised citizens to monitor the “U.S. Department of State Security Updates for US Citizens” WhatsApp channel for further guidance.
Rising Casualties After Strikes

The warning follows coordinated strikes by US and Israeli forces on Iranian targets. Reports indicate the attacks resulted in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and the chief of staff of the armed forces, Abdolrahim Mousavi.
Regional observers estimate that more than 200 people were killed and over 700 injured in the bombardments of multiple Iranian cities. Several senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other defence officials were also reported dead.
Renewed Negotiation Signals

In the aftermath of the attacks, US President Donald Trump said Iran’s leadership had agreed to resume negotiations with Washington.
Trump stated that Tehran initiated contact for talks and that he had accepted the proposal.
