Why Atiku’s Son Refused To Join APC As Adamawa Commissioner

Commissioner for Works in Adamawa State, Adamu Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has refused to follow Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to the All Progressives Congress.

Fintiri left the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday, taking 22 out of 24 commissioners with him in a statewide announcement.

Another key commissioner, Maksha Atiku, who oversees Livestock, was also absent when the governor declared his defection.

A handwritten list of commissioners who moved to the APC confirmed that both Adamu and Maksha were not part of the shift.

Sources say the two Atiku sons remained in their party out of loyalty to their father and his political stance.

While one of Atiku’s other sons, Abba, joined the APC last month, Adamu chose to stay with the African Democratic Congress.

Maksha also stayed behind, supporting the former Vice President.

The decision of the two commissioners to stay in their party, even as the governor and most of his cabinet switched, raises questions about Atiku Abubakar’s influence in Adamawa politics.
