The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress as the duly elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council following the conclusion of the council election.
The declaration was made by the AMAC Collation Officer, Prof. Andrew Abue, who confirmed that Maikalangu, the sitting chairman, polled 40,295 votes out of a total of 62,861 valid ballots cast, securing his return to office.

According to the official breakdown, the African Democratic Congress finished in second position with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party came third after recording 3,398 votes.
Prof. Abue stated that 2,336 ballots were rejected, bringing the overall number of votes cast to 65,197. He further explained that out of 837,338 registered voters in AMAC, 65,676 voters were accredited and took part in the election.
“Christopher Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Abue said.
A detailed party-by-party result showed that Accord’s candidate, Agbon Vaniah, received 403 votes, while Nemiebika Tamunomiesam of the Action Alliance secured 108 votes. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Paul Ogidi, garnered 12,109 votes, and Richard Elizabeth of the Action Democratic Party polled 588 votes.

Christopher Maikalangu of the APC led the race with 40,295 votes. Eze Chukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance recorded 1,111 votes, while Chukwu Promise of the Allied Peoples Movement received 122 votes. Ugoh Michael of the Action Peoples Party secured 32 votes, and Thomas Happiness of the Boot Party polled 43 votes.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party candidate, Jibrin Alhassan, obtained 1,694 votes, while Samson Usani of the National Rescue Movement recorded 73 votes. Dantani Zanda of the Peoples Democratic Party finished with 3,398 votes. Iber Shimakaha of the Peoples Redemption Party received 90 votes, and Simon Obinna of the Social Democratic Party secured 2,185 votes.
Madaki Robert of the Young Progressives Party garnered 421 votes, while Swani Buba of the Zenith Labour Party concluded the tally with 189 votes.
Following the announcement, APC Collation Agent Gambo Babale described both the voting and collation stages as credible and transparent.

“INEC has done so well. We’ve seen the processes across all the polling units, ward collation centres, and here at the AMAC area council collation centre. Everything was done perfectly well,” he said.
Babale also pointed out that the PDP secured two ward councillor seats in Karu and Karishi, which he cited as proof of the openness of the exercise. He congratulated Maikalangu and expressed optimism that the renewed mandate would bring further democratic benefits to residents of AMAC.
In the same vein, Abdullahi Ibrahim, the YPP Ward Collation Agent, praised the transparency of the process and extended congratulations to the declared winner.
The result sheets were endorsed by party agents representing the ADC, APC, APGA, YPP, and NNPP who were present at the collation centre.
