Nigerian singer Tems has officially joined the ownership group of San Diego FC, a Major League Soccer (MLS) club in the United States. The club confirmed the news in a statement, welcoming the two-time Grammy Award winner to its executive team.
Born in Lagos, Tems expressed her enthusiasm for this opportunity, emphasizing football’s role in bringing people together. “Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego.”
This milestone makes Tems the first African female to hold a stake in an MLS club. Other prominent owners of San Diego FC include former Chelsea player Juan Mata, actress Issa Rae, and retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink.
San Diego FC was founded in May 2023 and is set to debut in the MLS in 2025.
