A formal petition filed by Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo against senior police officials has ignited a fresh controversy, drawing a defiant response from social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, who dismissed the complaint as meaningless.

The petition, submitted on July 29, 2025, through her legal counsel, The Maverick Forte Legal, alleges that a major breach of protocol occurred during her recent interrogation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Ojo accused Commissioner of Police CP Ifeanyi Henry Uche, who heads the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC), of interrogating her in the presence of VeryDarkMan, describing this as a gross violation of her privacy, confidentiality, and dignity.

The actress further alleged that CP Uche has an inappropriate relationship with VeryDarkMan, granting him unrestricted access to the police facility. The petition claims that VeryDarkMan was allegedly granted access to the details of her interrogation at the force headquarters.

In his characteristic combative style, VeryDarkMan responded dismissively to the formal complaint. Sharing the petition on his Instagram story Tuesday evening, VeryDarkMan wrote, “This petition na suya paper,” suggesting the document was worthless.

The activist’s reaction included the pointed statement referenced in the original quote: “This will be a very big lesson to CP Uche Ifeanyi and every Nigerian police; not every case is meant to be settled,” signaling his belief that the petition represents a significant challenge to police practices regarding case resolution and procedural compliance.

This latest development stems from ongoing investigations related to the death of musician Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba), which has generated significant public interest and social media discourse. The police have stated that “Ms. Ojo made unsubstantiated claims via social media and interviews linking them to the death of the late artist” and that she “was invited for questioning and granted administrative bail.”

The petition has been addressed to both the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi. The complaint raises serious questions about police protocol adherence and the appropriate boundaries between law enforcement and social media personalities in high-profile investigations.

The controversy has divided public opinion, with some social media users criticizing what they perceive as preferential treatment for VeryDarkMan, while others question the actress’s motives in filing the formal complaint. The case highlights broader concerns about transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s police force, particularly regarding the handling of celebrity cases and media access to sensitive investigations.

As this story develops, it underscores the growing intersection between social media influence, celebrity involvement in criminal investigations, and traditional law enforcement procedures in contemporary Nigeria.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has filed a formal petition against senior police officials, alleging that Commissioner of Police CP Uche Ifeanyi violated protocol by allowing social media activist VeryDarkMan to be present during her interrogation and giving him inappropriate access to police facilities.

This controversy isn’t just celebrity drama—it’s a critical test case that could determine whether Nigeria’s police force operates with proper oversight or continues allowing informal influence to override established procedures.
