The inaugural edition of FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup will conclude on Sunday with a blockbuster final between European champions Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
US President Donald Trump is expected to attend the high-profile event.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has hailed the tournament as the dawn of “the golden era of club football,” and this final appears to be the ideal climax he envisioned.
PSG, aiming to complete a historic trophy sweep, have already secured a domestic double and their first-ever UEFA Champions League title after a record-breaking 5-0 win over Inter Milan. Under coach Luis Enrique, the French giants have dominated the Club World Cup as well, routing top clubs like Atletico Madrid, Inter Miami, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid to reach the final.
“We want to finish an already fantastic season in the best possible way,” Enrique told reporters.

Chelsea, meanwhile, enter the final as underdogs despite a strong season that saw them finish fourth in the Premier League and lift the UEFA Conference League. Coach Enzo Maresca praised PSG as “probably the best team in the world,” while Chelsea defender Reece James shrugged off the favourites tag, emphasizing the unpredictability of finals.
Chelsea were hopeful that Moises Caicedo, who suffered an ankle injury in the semifinal win over Fluminense, would be fit for the final.
The match, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. local time (1900 GMT), will take place under sweltering conditions — a concern raised by Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, who warned that playing in such heat could be “very dangerous.” It will be held at the 82,500-seat MetLife Stadium, also the venue for the 2026 World Cup final.

Both PSG and Chelsea are guaranteed to walk away with more than $100 million in prize money, offering major financial relief — especially for Chelsea, who were recently penalized by UEFA for financial rule violations.
Infantino, speaking confidently from Trump Tower in New York, proclaimed the 32-team tournament as the world’s “most successful club competition,” with the next edition scheduled for 2029.
