The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced his withdrawal from all agreements previously made to resolve the lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he will “fight on until justice is attained.”

In a personally signed statement titled “PDP Crisis: My Position” released on Sunday, Wike accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of being the architect of the party’s current troubles. He said the root cause of the PDP’s turmoil is the consistent failure to honor agreements and stressed that Makinde had admitted being the “chief culprit” in this regard.

Wike emphasized that the failure to abide by agreed resolutions, including the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, the withdrawal of all PDP legal suits regarding Rivers State, and the discontinuation of moves to declare a state of emergency, has deepened the party’s internal divisions.

“Since after the 2023 General Election, the PDP has been wantonly swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another, owing fundamentally to dishonesty and lack of trust amongst its key stakeholders,” Wike stated.

He recounted a G5 meeting in Lagos where he directly told Makinde that his refusal to honor commitments had destabilized the party. He added that at a later expanded meeting in Abuja attended by Governors Bala Mohammed and Umaru Fintiri, as well as former Senate President Bukola Saraki, it was agreed that Anyanwu be affirmed as National Secretary and that all legal disputes be withdrawn.

However, Wike lamented that those agreements were quickly broken. He accused Makinde of conspiring with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to install Udeh Okoye as National Secretary in violation of earlier resolutions. He also condemned efforts to sideline Senator Anyanwu by pushing the Deputy National Secretary to act in his stead, a move that recently led to INEC’s refusal to attend a PDP zonal congress in Jos.

Wike expressed disappointment in the ongoing betrayal by party leaders, saying, “It is disheartening to note that even before the Bukola Saraki Reconciliation Committee began its work, the gentleman’s agreement we reached at Saraki’s Guest House was already being crudely violated.”

He defended his long-standing loyalty to the PDP, noting his contributions since 1998 and claiming he had asked for nothing in return from governors he helped elect.

“Most importantly, I had thought that we could keep the trust amongst us,” Wike said. “But since it is now obvious that they would continue to play games to the detriment of the party… I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained.”

Citing broken promises and betrayal by key stakeholders, he vows to continue his fight for “justice” and party reform, escalating the crisis in the opposition party.
