VP Shettima Departs Abuja for 80th UN General Assembly in New York

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled to hold in New York from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28.

According to a statement on Sunday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of The Vice President), Shettima will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the global gathering. He is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level general debates and participate in several side events.

The Vice President will also unveil Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at a special climate event for Heads of State and Government, hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday, September 24.

In addition, Shettima is scheduled to attend the high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, to be hosted by the President of Kenya, alongside other bilateral engagements.

After UNGA, he will proceed to Frankfurt, Germany, for a meeting with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
