President Bola Tinubu is currently chairing the National Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking the first such high-level gathering since he assumed office on May 29, 2023. The meeting is taking place at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja and is attended by key party leaders from across the country.

The caucus meeting serves as a precursor to the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, scheduled to be held at the APC National Secretariat in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Wednesday. The discussions at the caucus are expected to lay the groundwork for important party decisions that will be finalized at the NEC meeting.

Among the prominent figures present at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje. Ganduje is accompanied by nine other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including the deputy national chairmen (North and South), the national secretary, legal adviser, treasurer, organizing secretary, women leader, youth leader, and leader of persons living with disabilities.

Also in attendance are APC governors, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who serves as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum. Other notable governors present include Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu, and Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.

Key figures from the South-South region attending the meeting include former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Silva. From the North, influential party leaders such as Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Niger State Governor Umar Bago, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Abubakar Bagudu are also present.

The South-West is represented by pioneer APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore, and Senator Lola Ashiru, among others.

Additionally, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, former Cross River State Governor Prof. Ben Ayade, and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim are participating in the deliberations.

One of the major agenda items being discussed at the meeting is the scheduling of a non-elective convention in line with the party’s constitution. The caucus is also expected to deliberate on the formation of party standing committees, a presentation on the establishment of The Progressive Institute (TPI), and the implementation of a nationwide membership e-registration exercise.

Furthermore, the meeting will review a report from the APC’s national legal adviser regarding ongoing litigations involving the party in various courts.

The outcome of the National Caucus meeting is expected to shape key decisions at the NEC meeting, where critical party strategies and policies will be finalized.
