President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, as a non-career ambassador and has forwarded his nomination to the Senate for confirmation.

The development was announced during Wednesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read President Tinubu’s letter to lawmakers.

In the letter, the President said the nomination was made in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and urged the Senate to give it speedy consideration and confirmation.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has disclosed that 63 countries have approved ambassadors appointed by President Tinubu, while six ambassadorial postings are still awaiting approval from their host nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made this known in a statement on Tuesday, stating that Nigeria had received agréments from countries including India and South Africa.

According to the ministry, the agréments signify the formal acceptance of the diplomats as Nigeria’s official representatives in their respective countries of assignment.

The ministry explained that the approved diplomats are among the 69 ambassadors appointed by President Tinubu and noted that 63 host countries have so far granted approval for the appointments.

It also revealed that the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, presented Letters of Credence to the Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate to Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea and Egypt after receiving confirmation of their acceptance by the host countries.
