President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons after their thrilling semi-final triumph over South Africa in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The hard-fought victory secured the Nigerian team a spot in the tournament’s final and placed them on the brink of clinching a record 10th WAFCON title, further cementing their dominance in African women’s football.

Reacting shortly after the intense match concluded, President Tinubu issued a statement praising the team’s outstanding performance. According to the president, the win was “well deserved” and reflected the excellence and resilience that characterize Nigeria’s national spirit.

“Your incredible #WAFCON2025 semi-finals victory over South Africa today was nothing short of superlative,” Tinubu said in the statement. “It was a magnificent display of grit, talent, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit. You have made the nation proud.”

Encouraging the Falcons to maintain their momentum, the President called on the players to press forward with determination until the ultimate prize is secured. “Keep soaring. Don’t stop until you bring the trophy home. Go for our 10th title. Nigerians worldwide are rooting for you. We are waiting to receive the cup,” he added.

The match, which kept fans on edge, ended in a dramatic 2-1 victory for Nigeria. Defender Michelle Alozie became the hero of the night after scoring a stunning late goal that sealed the team’s passage to the final. With the scoreboard level at 1-1 and the game appearing destined for extra time, Alozie launched a long-range effort into the South African penalty area. The ball slipped past everyone, including the goalkeeper, and found its way into the net—leaving the Banyana Banyana defence stunned.

This goal sparked wild celebrations from the Nigerian bench and supporters around the world, as the Super Falcons once again demonstrated their reputation as Africa’s most formidable women’s football team.

As the final approaches, the Super Falcons await the outcome of the second semi-final between host nation Morocco and regional rivals Ghana to determine their opponent. Regardless of who emerges, Nigeria will head into the final with immense confidence and the full support of millions of Nigerians eager to witness history.
