South Africa have secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), setting up a much-anticipated clash with long-time rivals Nigeria. The encounter is scheduled for Tuesday at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.

Banyana Banyana clinched their semi-final ticket after a tense battle against Senegal, which ended goalless after both regular and extra time. The South Africans held their nerves to triumph 4-1 in the penalty shootout during Saturday’s quarter-final.

Nigeria, meanwhile, delivered a commanding performance in their own quarter-final fixture, routing Zambia’s Copper Queens 5-0 on Friday. The emphatic win extended the Super Falcons’ unbeaten run in the competition, reinforcing their status as one of the tournament’s most formidable sides.

With the quarter-finals concluded, attention now turns to the semi-final stage. Nigeria and South Africa will headline the lineup in what promises to be a fierce contest between two of the continent’s football powerhouses.

Their upcoming meeting reignites a fierce rivalry that last played out during the 2022 edition of WAFCON, also hosted in Morocco, when South Africa edged past Nigeria with a 2-1 win. That result came three years after the South Africans suffered a painful loss to Nigeria in the WAFCON final.

Heading into Tuesday’s clash, the Super Falcons appear to be in top form. The team has not conceded a single goal in the tournament so far, having scored eight times in four matches — a statistic that highlights both their attacking sharpness and solid defensive foundation.

On the other side of the bracket, Ghana’s Black Queens will battle hosts Morocco for the second final slot. Their semi-final match will also take place on Tuesday, setting the stage for an exciting day of women’s football.

Nigeria vs. South Africa WAFCON Match Details

Date: Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025.
