President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of high-level appointments and reappointments within several key federal educational agencies.

The move, announced via a statement from the presidency, signals a blend of fresh leadership and continuity, particularly within the nation’s examination and technical education frameworks.

The National Examination Council (NECO) sees a significant strengthening of its leadership tier. Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu, a seasoned academic and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, has been named the Chairman of the Governing Board. Her appointment is expected to bring a wealth of administrative experience to the council’s oversight functions.

Simultaneously, the president has opted for stability in the council’s daily operations by retaining Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as the registrar and chief executive. Wushishi’s retention is seen by many insiders as a vote of confidence in his recent reforms regarding examination integrity and digital transition.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which oversees polytechnics and vocational training, also received a leadership refresh as Prof. Babatunde Salako assumes the role of Chairman of the Governing Board and Prof. Idris M. Bugaje is reappointed as Executive Secretary.

Bugaje now enters his second and final five-year term, a period likely to be defined by his ongoing “Skills-to-Wealth” initiative and the repositioning of technical colleges.

The presidential directive was further extended to the National Library of Nigeria, where Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi saw her mandate renewed. She will serve a final five-year term as director/chief executive, tasked with the continued modernization of the nation’s repository of knowledge.

In Plateau State, Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been formally appointed as the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam. Binfa’s five-year term begins at a critical juncture as the institution seeks to expand its footprint in the North-Central region.

At a glance, here is the list of new appointees:

1) Prof. Modupe Adelabu (Chairman, Governing Board, NECO)
2) Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi,( Registrar NECO) Retained
3) Prof. Babatunde Salako (Chairman, Governing Board NBTE)
4) Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, (Executive Secretary NBTE) Reappointed
5) Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa (Rector, Fed. Poly, N’yak-Shendam)
6) Prof. Chinwe Anunobi (Director/CEO National Library) Renewed

The Presidential Briefing stated that “these appointments reflect the administration’s commitment to ensuring that our educational institutions are led by individuals with proven track records of excellence and integrity.”

The appointments take immediate effect, with the presidency urging the new leadership to prioritize innovation and transparency in their respective roles.
