The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has arrived back in the country following a short vacation in London, putting to rest speculation regarding his health status.
Akpabio, who had earlier participated in the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva from July 29 to 31, 2025, proceeded to London for a brief break. His absence had fueled speculation that he was critically ill and receiving medical care in the United Kingdom.
He returned in the early hours of Monday, touching down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at around 4:00 a.m. The Senate president was warmly welcomed at the presidential wing by lawmakers, aides, and supporters who turned out to receive him.
While addressing reporters on his arrival, Akpabio dismissed rumours about his health, assuring Nigerians that he remains strong and ready to deliver on his legislative duties. He also pledged that the Senate would embark on more robust parliamentary engagements when sessions resume.
“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” Akpabio clarified.
