Veteran Nigerian rapper Reminisce has announced that his eighth studio album will be released in September 2025. The project, titled “44: Midlife Tales,” marks a significant milestone for the 44-year-old artist, signaling what appears to be his most personal and reflective work to date.

The album’s title suggests an introspective exploration of middle age from the perspective of one of Nigeria’s most enduring hip-hop figures. Known professionally as Reminisce and by the moniker “Alaga Ibile,” the rapper appears poised to tackle themes of aging, fatherhood, and navigating an evolving music industry landscape.

Recent social media activity from the artist has provided tantalizing hints about the project’s collaborations. Screenshots shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account show phone conversations with fellow Nigerian music heavyweights Olamide, Ice Prince, and renowned producer Pheelz, strongly suggesting their involvement in the upcoming release.

This latest offering follows Reminisce’s 2024 EP “Sui Generis,” which showcased his continued evolution as an artist. The project continued his trend of combining hip-hop, fuji, and Afrobeats to deliver an impressive fusion that has made him one of the most celebrated rappers in Nigerian music. That EP featured collaborations with Vector, BadBoy Timz, and Bhadboi OML, demonstrating the artist’s commitment to bridging generational gaps in Nigerian hip-hop.

The announcement comes as Reminisce continues to cement his legacy as a pioneering force in African hip-hop. His track record includes groundbreaking achievements that have placed Nigerian rap on the global map. His album “Baba Hafusa” made history by debuting at number 12 on the Billboard World Chart, making him the first African rapper to achieve this feat.

He doubled down on this success with “El Hadj,” which reached number 13 on the same chart, establishing him as the first African rapper to place two albums on the Billboard World Album chart.

Reminisce’s commercial success is equally impressive, with his sophomore album “Alaga Ibile” reportedly selling over 13 million units in Lagos’s famous Alaba Market, a testament to his deep connection with Nigerian audiences and his ability to create music that resonates across different demographics.

The timing of “44: Midlife Tales” reflects broader trends in hip-hop, where veteran artists increasingly use their platforms to explore themes of maturity, legacy, and personal growth. At 44, Reminisce occupies a unique position in Nigerian music—old enough to offer wisdom and perspective, yet still relevant enough to influence contemporary sounds and collaborate with younger artists.

His ability to adapt to changing industry dynamics has been a hallmark of his career. When music streaming began gaining traction in Nigeria, Reminisce deliberately crafted “Haba Hafusa” to reflect these changes in consumption patterns and appeal to new generations of listeners, demonstrating his business acumen alongside his artistic vision.

As September 2025 approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a defining moment in Reminisce’s illustrious career. “44: Midlife Tales” represents not just another album release, but a potential blueprint for how veteran African hip-hop artists can remain relevant while embracing the wisdom that comes with experience.

For fans who have followed Reminisce’s journey from his critically acclaimed debut, “My Book of Rap Stories,” to his current status as an elder statesman of Nigerian hip-hop, this eighth studio album offers the promise of both nostalgia and forward-thinking artistry—a midlife reflection that could resonate far beyond Nigeria’s borders.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Nigerian rap legend Reminisce will release his eighth studio album, “44: Midlife Tales,” in September 2025, promising a deeply personal exploration of life at middle age. The project features collaborations with Olamide, Ice Prince, and producer Pheelz, continuing his signature fusion of hip-hop, fuji, and Afrobeats.

Most significantly, this album represents a pivotal moment for African hip-hop—showcasing how veteran artists can remain culturally relevant while embracing maturity. Reminisce’s track record as the first African rapper to place two albums on Billboard’s World Chart positions this release as potentially influential beyond Nigeria’s borders.

The album signals a broader trend of established African artists using their platforms to offer wisdom and perspective, potentially setting a template for the next generation of veteran hip-hop storytellers across the continent.
