The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to its members who have openly declared support for President Bola Tinubu, cautioning them to reverse their stance or risk severe disciplinary action.
In a statement on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described such conduct as a clear act of disloyalty, labeling it “anti-party” and in direct violation of the PDP constitution. He stressed that the NWC was determined to safeguard the party’s unity and electoral prospects, invoking Section 59(1) of the PDP constitution to warn that stiffer sanctions would be applied if the errant members did not change course.
The statement expressed the NWC’s disappointment over continued public criticism of the party by some of its prominent figures, including declarations of support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and commitments to work for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. According to the PDP leadership, these actions run contrary to Section 10(6) of the party’s constitution, which prohibits members from aligning with rival parties in ways that undermine the PDP or its elected officials.
The NWC maintained that such behaviour was already causing damage, creating internal divisions, fostering discontent, and prompting the exit of influential members — developments that could severely weaken the party’s electoral strength if not swiftly addressed.
While condemning the actions, the NWC urged all members to remain steadfast and focused, directing their efforts toward the successful organisation of the PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The crisis within the PDP has been aggravated by recent endorsements of President Tinubu’s re-election bid by some of its high-profile members. On July 28, 2025, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose publicly backed Tinubu for a second term, alongside endorsing APC’s Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his deputy for re-election. Fayose made the announcement during an APC event at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, declaring his support “without reservation.”
Similarly, on July 23, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the PDP in Osun State declared their support for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition, further inflaming tensions within the party’s national leadership.
