The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on Friday that its aircraft successfully repelled an attempted terrorist assault on military personnel stationed in Rann, Borno State, during the early hours of the day as part of the ongoing Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).

According to a statement released in Abuja by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, the Air Component of OPHK carried out a series of coordinated Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Air Interdiction (AI) operations following credible intelligence of a planned attack.

The statement explained that ground troops in Rann were immediately alerted, while ISR missions detected clusters of insurgents attempting to withdraw from the area. “Precision air strikes were launched, neutralising several fighters and halting the assault,” it read.

NAF noted that the swift and targeted action not only disrupted the insurgents’ plans but also restored stability in the area. The force reaffirmed its “unwavering commitment to providing close air support, safeguarding troops, and swiftly eliminating insurgent threats.”

Rann, situated near the Nigeria–Cameroon border, has repeatedly faced insurgent attacks over the years. The successful operation is therefore seen as a significant reinforcement of ongoing security measures aimed at protecting the region from further violence.
