The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday held its Local Government Congress across all 18 LGAs, electing new executive committees and national delegates.
The State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, who monitored the process with a panel from the party’s national headquarters led by Hillary Okute, described the exercise as a “rebirth” of the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the Oredo Local Government Secretariat, party members elected an 18-member executive and a national delegate in what Aziegbemi commended as a peaceful and transparent process. He said the successful conduct of the ward congresses last week, which covered all 192 wards, had already been widely praised as the best organised in the state.

“What you are seeing here is the beginning of the rebirth of PDP in Nigeria,” Aziegbemi declared. He expressed optimism that the growing momentum among party members would drive efforts to dislodge the APC both at the federal and state levels in the 2027 and 2028 elections.
He criticized the ruling party for worsening the living conditions of Nigerians, claiming, “Over 60 million Nigerians go to bed hungry every night because of the APC’s clueless government. What we are doing here in Edo is the march to rescue Nigeria.” Aziegbemi also assured that the upcoming state congress scheduled for September 27 in Benin would be peaceful and further consolidate the unity of the PDP ahead of the November convention in Abuja.
Panel chairman Hillary Okute praised the exercise, noting it reflected “careful planning, hard work, and dedication.” He described the process as a new dawn for the party, adding, “We are truly amazed at the decorum and spirit of brotherhood here today. We believe this will translate to higher levels, not just for Edo but for Nigeria.”
