The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has pulled its corps members from the Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State following repeated attacks by suspected armed herders. This decision comes in the wake of a tragic incident in which over 20 people were killed—16 of whom were farmers—with their bodies discovered along the River Katsina-Ala.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Yahuza Adamu, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC in Benue, explained that the withdrawal was prompted by the “incessant attacks” in the area, which shares a border with the Republic of Cameroon. “Since the beginning of incessant attacks on Mbaa Community which shares boundary with the Republic of Cameroon, NYSC withdrew all Corps Members from the area, and has not posted any there till date,” Adamu said.

He assured that a headcount conducted by the NYSC Kwande Local Government Inspector confirmed the safety of all corps members in the affected area, and noted that those serving in Jato Acka Turan—located far from the troubled community—face no security threat. Adamu emphasized that the NYSC is committed to proactive risk mitigation and works continuously with security agencies to ensure the protection of its members. “Parents and guardians are encouraged to obtain accurate updates from NYSC official channels,” he added, reassuring stakeholders of the agency’s vigilance and dedication to the welfare of corps members.
