The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed a total of 77,000 kilograms of skunk weed in separate raids across Cross River and Edo states, according to a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in Abuja.

In Cross River, NDLEA operatives burned 75,000kg of the psychoactive substance at Esuk-Odot village, while in Edo State, 1,957.5kg were destroyed in the Ohosu forest (Ovia South West LGA) and Okhuse community forest (Owan West LGA) on May 23 and 24, respectively.

In related operations, the agency reported multiple arrests across other states. In Nasarawa State, Sunday Daniel (51) and Abu Peter (30) were arrested in Keffi with 4,000kg of skunk hidden under unprocessed wood in their lorry. Additionally, Godwin Obi (39) was caught in Karu with 154.5kg of the substance on May 21.

In Kaduna, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Kaduna–Zaria expressway intercepted Muhammad Hamza (22) at Gwargwaje with 57,750 pills of tramadol and diazepam on the same day.

Similarly, in Bauchi, Usman Muhammad (45) was arrested along the Bauchi–Misau road with 80 blocks of skunk weighing 45kg.

Meanwhile, operatives stationed on the Potiskum–Damaturu road in Yobe apprehended Adum Muhammed (29) with 55 parcels of Colorado drugs weighing 2kg. He was reportedly attempting to smuggle the drugs into the Republic of Chad via Ngamboru-Ngala, a border town in Borno State.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd.), commended officers nationwide for their continued dedication, applauding the balance achieved between efforts to reduce both drug supply and demand.

What you should know
NDLEA has ramped up its crackdown on drug trafficking, destroying over 77,000kg of skunk in major raids while arresting suspects with large drug hauls in multiple states.

The agency warns traffickers as it intensifies efforts under Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa’s leadership.
