The Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency has announced plans to mobilize investors for direct investment in agriculture and green energy in Yobe State.

The agency’s Head of Emerging Industries, Yassine El Ahyani, made this known during a meeting in Rabat, Morocco, where he received a delegation from Yobe State, led by Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali.

El Ahyani emphasized that Yobe’s agricultural resources, such as sesame seeds and gum Arabic, have immense international market value. He noted that sesame seeds are in high demand globally and could yield substantial returns for investors. Investing in agriculture in Yobe State presents a mutually beneficial opportunity, given the increasing demand for agricultural products.

He further highlighted the potential of generating green energy for both local consumption and export, describing it as another sector with promising investment opportunities.

In response, Wali assured the Moroccan Investment Agency that investors would enjoy favorable conditions in Yobe State. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment, offering incentives, and facilitating direct investments in agriculture, particularly in sesame seeds, gum Arabic, beans, groundnuts, and other high-value crops.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mustapha Goniri, pointed out that the onion species grown in Geidam and other parts of Yobe State are of superior quality due to the region’s unique soil, water, and climate conditions. He highlighted that a partnership between farmers, the Yobe State government, and foreign investors could unlock major investment opportunities. The Yobe State cargo airport was also cited as a crucial infrastructure that could enable the rapid export of agricultural products to global markets.

During their visit to Morocco, the Yobe delegation also explored tourism investment opportunities with AMDIE. The Moroccan agency expressed its readiness to invest in the Dufana Canoe, the world’s second-oldest canoe, to promote tourism in Yobe State.

El Ahyani acknowledged the historical and economic significance of the canoe, emphasizing its potential to generate revenue, create employment opportunities, and drive infrastructural development.

Wali assured that the Yobe State government would continue to provide a conducive environment to foster tourism, especially around the Dufana Canoe and other cultural heritage sites. He stated that this initiative aligns with the government’s broader policy of creating employment opportunities for youth in areas such as hospitality, transportation, and tour services.

Ahmed Gombe, CEO of African Network, affirmed his commitment to ensuring the swift completion of all investment documentation processes. He commended the Yobe State government for its efforts in expanding revenue sources, creating employment opportunities, and fostering wealth creation.
