Mohamed Salah has once again etched his name in Premier League history, securing the prestigious Player of the Season award for a second time.
The Liverpool forward’s extraordinary contributions have been pivotal in guiding the Reds to their record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.
The Egyptian international has delivered a sensational individual campaign, netting 28 goals in league competition — more than any other player this season — and contributing 18 assists.
With one match remaining against FA Cup champions Crystal Palace, the 32-year-old is on the verge of surpassing the joint-assist record of 20, held by legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
This award, which blends fan votes with the selections of a panel of seasoned football analysts, recognizes Salah’s exceptional influence on Liverpool’s title-winning journey. It is his second time receiving the accolade, having previously won during the 2017-18 season.
His latest triumph interrupts Manchester City’s dominance over the award, which had seen its players claim the title for four consecutive years. The last recipient outside City’s roster was none other than Salah’s Liverpool colleague Virgil van Dijk, who claimed the honor in the 2018/19 season.
Interestingly, Van Dijk was among those Salah surpassed in the voting this time around. The Dutch defender, who also renewed his contract with the Merseyside club earlier this season, was joined on the shortlist by several other top performers, including fellow Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, Arsenal’s midfield engine Declan Rice, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood, Newcastle’s attacking force Alexander Isak, and Brentford standout Bryan Mbeumo.
Salah’s dominance this season has not gone unnoticed by the football press either. Earlier in May, he was named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year, earning nearly 90 percent of the votes — the most decisive victory for the honor in over two decades.
With his consistent brilliance and unmatched productivity, Salah has once again proven himself not just as one of the Premier League’s most lethal attackers, but also as a symbol of sustained excellence at the highest level of the sport.
