The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has addressed growing public concern following a viral video in which a young woman alleged she was sexually assaulted by a neighbour in her residence.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the agency confirmed it is aware of the video making rounds on social media, where the visibly distressed woman shared her experience on TikTok.

“The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has taken note of the multiple tags and public concerns regarding a video currently circulating on social media, in which a young woman shared her experience of sexual assault at her residence on her TikTok page,” the statement read.

The agency disclosed that it has commenced efforts to establish contact with the alleged victim in order to provide urgent assistance and determine her exact location for appropriate intervention.

“We want to state clearly that we have seen the reports and we are actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention and ascertain the location.

“Our team has initiated contact through available channels and will continue efforts to establish communication.”

The DSVA also appealed to members of the public who may have relevant information to assist in reaching the young woman to share such details via its official social media platforms.

In the video posted on Monday, the young woman tearfully described her alleged ordeal, saying, “I felt like I couldn’t take it anymore.”

She added, “I drank snipper yesterday. My chest is burning, and I am so tired and so broken. My friend had to rush me to the hospital to save me. I’m not mentally strong from everything that’s going on.”

The agency reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance policy toward domestic and sexual violence, stressing that survivors are entitled to protection, medical care, psychosocial support, and access to justice. It encouraged other victims to come forward, assuring them that all reports are handled with strict confidentiality and prompt attention.

The DSVA provided contact channels for support, including phone lines, a WhatsApp AI chatbox, and its official self-reporting website.

The agency pledged to issue further updates as its outreach efforts and any subsequent investigations progress.
