The lifeless body of Justice Azuka, the Anambra State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, has been discovered near the 2nd Niger Bridge, 44 days after his abduction.
Azuka, a Labour Party chieftain, was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Onitsha while returning home for Christmas. His decomposing body was recovered by security operatives in the early hours of Thursday, sending shockwaves throughout the region.
This marks the second time in less than three years that a serving lawmaker has been abducted and killed in Anambra State. In 2022, Aguata 2 Constituency representative Okechukwu Okoye was also kidnapped and later found beheaded.
A police source disclosed that the kidnappers were apprehended and led security operatives to the location of Azuka’s remains. However, the Anambra State Police Command has not officially confirmed the arrests, stating that an ongoing operation is underway.
Reacting to the tragic incident, the Labour Party House of Representatives Caucus described Azuka’s murder as “horrendous and heart-rending,” calling on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to address the rising insecurity in the state. The late lawmaker’s family, especially his wife and children, have been thrown into deep grief following this devastating loss.
