Ahead of Manchester City’s crucial match against current league leaders Liverpool on Sunday, Pep Guardiola, the manager of Man City, made a bold declaration: he does not believe any team will ever win four consecutive Premier League titles or secure 100 points in a single season within his lifetime.
Speaking with Neil Warnock on Sky Sports, Guardiola emphasized, “No one is going to win [with] 100 points, and four-in-a-row in the Premier League. It’s not going to happen in my lifetime, I’m sorry!” His comments come despite Manchester City’s historic 100-point campaign in the 2017-18 season, which remains unmatched in the league.
This season, however, City’s dominance seems to be in jeopardy as they face mounting challenges, particularly after their Champions League ambitions were dashed by Real Madrid.
With silverware now most likely to come from the FA Cup, Guardiola’s remarks underscore his belief that the level of sustained excellence needed to replicate past glories might be beyond reach for any team in the foreseeable future.
