Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has bestowed a generous reward of ₦50 million and a three-bedroom house on Super Falcons coach, Justine Madugu, following Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The announcement was made on Friday through Governor Fintiri’s official X handle, where he celebrated Madugu’s patriotism and dedication to the country’s sporting excellence.

In his message, the governor expressed pride in receiving the coach, describing him as “a true son of Adamawa” and “a hero of Nigeria’s WAFCON 2025 victory.” According to Fintiri, the gifts were given in appreciation of Madugu’s role in the national team’s success, praising his brilliance and commitment. “His success inspires our sporting renaissance,” the governor added.

Coach Justine Madugu, an indigene of Adamawa State, played a pivotal role as part of the technical crew that guided the Super Falcons to an impressive victory in the 2024 WAFCON final. The Nigerian women’s football team delivered a remarkable performance in the championship game, staging a thrilling comeback to overcome host nation Morocco 3-2 last Saturday. The win earned Nigeria a record 10th WAFCON title, further cementing the country’s dominance in African women’s football.

Following their victory, the Super Falcons were officially received in Abuja by President Bola Tinubu on Monday. During the state reception, each player was awarded \$100,000, while Madugu and other technical crew members received $50,000, a three-bedroom apartment, and national honours, specifically the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The recent gesture by Governor Fintiri not only highlights Coach Madugu’s contribution to Nigeria’s sporting glory but also showcases the pride his home state feels in his achievements. The state’s recognition adds a deeply personal dimension to the national accolades already bestowed on him, reflecting both symbolic and tangible appreciation for his role in making history with the Super Falcons.
