Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of two Kano State indigenes who were attacked while transiting through the Agan community, on the outskirts of Makurdi.
In a statement released Tuesday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia described the incident as “barbaric and unacceptable,” and directed security agencies to immediately apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
Following the governor’s directive, the Benue State Police Command confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to the attack.
“The Governor is deeply saddened by the deaths of the two men, who were merely passing through the state but were brutally attacked and murdered by criminals,” the statement read.
Governor Alia reiterated that the people of Benue are known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition, warning that the actions of a few criminals must not be allowed to define the state’s identity.
“We cannot allow some criminal elements to tarnish our image and create a contrary narrative for our people. These criminals must be fished out immediately and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he declared.
He extended condolences to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and disclosed that both leaders had discussed the incident earlier in the day.
Governor Alia also appealed for calm and reassured the people of Kano State that justice will be served without delay.
